Aladwa slams opposition, says Raila in good health

In a statement, he said the allegations were politically motivated and fuelled by bitterness over Raila’s cooperation with President William Ruto in the broad-based government.
“I assure all ODM supporters and admirers of Raila that we are in touch with our leader. We know his whereabouts, his mission and we know he is in good health,” Aladwa said.
Raila is aged 80. He was born on January 7, 1945.
Aladwa’s remarks follow reports that Raila had travelled out of the country, sparking speculation about his health and need for medical treatment.
Raila’s spokesperson Dennis Onyango confirmed the former Prime Minister left the country on Friday night but dismissed reports he had travelled to Europe for medical reasons.
“He definitely did not travel to Europe as reported by bloggers and broadcast by some media houses. He is not indisposed, as prayed for by his frustrated opponents,” Onyango said.
Aladwa condemned what he termed “evil rumours” aimed at discrediting Raila, accusing rivals of stooping “to an all-time low” in the country’s politics.
It is unfortunate that as Raila works with President William Ruto to stabilise the country and its economy, some politicians are so unhappy that they resort to praying for his death,” he said.
However, the opposition—through Wiper party secretary general Shakila Abdalla—dismissed ODM’s claims that it was behind the rumours.
“Let it be stated clearly that Kalonzo Musyoka harbours no ill will whatsoever toward Mr Odinga. The two leaders share a long public history of cooperation and mutual respect,” Abdalla said.
Onyango recalled that Raila has always been transparent about his medical condition.
“He told the country when he was hospitalised as Prime Minister in 2010 and again in 2021 after contracting Covid-19. He would do the same today were he to be unwell,” he said.
Aladwa urged ODM supporters to remain steadfast in supporting Raila and the
broad-based government that has brought peace and stability to our nation,” he said.
Onyango said Raila remains focused on promoting unity and national cohesion.
“Home or away, Raila remains committed to the ideals of the broad-based government. He believes that extreme threats to the nation require extreme compromises in the interest of the country,” he said.
