Gachagua slams ICT CS Kabogo as unfit for the job

The Democracy for Citizens’ Party leader, Rigathi Gachagua, has criticised ICT Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo during a public rally in California in the United States.
Gachagua, who spoke on Monday, August 11, 2025, regretted that those serving in the government have no idea of what they are doing
Additionally, Gachagua revealed that he visited Silicon Valley before the rally, where he interacted with Kenyans involved in high-level technological innovation.
He expressed pride in their achievements and said they represented the kind of expertise Kenya needs.
Call for skilled leadership
“I was in Silicon Valley the day before yesterday. Wow! The centre of innovation in the whole world. I found Kenyans there driving innovation. They know what can be done to make Kenya a tech hub,” he said.
He contrasted this with the situation back home, saying Kenya has qualified people capable of transforming the country into a technology leader, but the wrong people are often appointed to key positions.
Back home? The Minister for ICT is William Kabogo. Aren’t you embarrassed? Sure, we need not go far; we have Kenyans who can transform our country. Yet we go and pick fellows who have no idea of what they are doing,” Gachagua remarked.
Harnessing local talent
Gachagua urged the government to tap into the skills and experience of Kenyans both in the country and abroad.
He said that with the right leadership, Kenya could leverage its human capital to build a strong and competitive technology sector.
According to him, innovation should be supported by policy, infrastructure, and leadership that understands the sector.
He encouraged diaspora professionals to continue contributing ideas and expertise that could help position Kenya as a continental hub for technology and innovation.
Gachagua is currently on a two-month tour of the United States, engaging with Kenyans living abroad to discuss governance, economic priorities, and opportunities for collaboration.
His trip has included visits to key innovation centres, with a focus on identifying ways to replicate successful models in Kenya.
