Hannah Waithera Reported Missing While Headed to Deposit Ksh250,000 Found Dead in Nakuru

It was a heartbreaking moment for the family of Hannah Waithera, a businesswoman who operated a shop along Kenyatta Avenue in Nakuru city, after her body was later discovered at the Nakuru City Morgue on Wednesday.
According to Waithera's mother, Mary Njeri, in a video obtained by Kenyans.co.ke, they discovered Hannah's body covered in grass and dumped in a dam in the Soilo neighbourhood of Nakuru after nearby residents complained of an unpleasant stench.
''She was found in a dam full of dirty water in Soilo, and then they covered her body with hay. What will I tell her child?' the heartbroken mother said while wailing in pain.
On May 21, Waithera left her workstation to deposit over Ksh250,000 in one of the banks in Nakuru city centre. That was the last time the 23-year-old was seen or heard from.
Her body was discovered precisely one week later, leaving her family devastated, in mourning, and with a tonne of unresolved questions.
At 1pm, Waithera got up from her desk and went to the bank, expecting to return home as usual. But that didn't occur.
Her mother was unable to locate her when she attempted to reach her. Zachariah Wanjohi, her husband, went to the police at 4pm to ask for assistance in tracking her phone.
Tracking revealed that Waithera was travelling to Nairobi from Kijabe. The family claims that they attempted to call the phone but were unable to connect. At 6pm, the phone was turned off.
After a fruitless search, her mother, Njeri, and younger sister accused the police of being slow to investigate.
According to the grandmother, Waithera's three-year-old daughter has been crying ever since she left.
Speaking to the Nation, the family claimed that while Waithera was still unaccounted for, individuals posing as detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) broke into Waithera's house and physically abused Wanjohi and other family members in front of the daughter.
They later stole Ksh49,350 from him, claiming to be reclaiming the money his wife had stolen. According to Wanjohi, the funds came from his vehicle rental business.
“They assaulted us and called us thieves; they claimed that we knew where Waithera was. One of the officers drew his gun and pointed it at me. They went ahead to say a fridge that we bought two weeks ago was proceeds of theft, but I have receipts. I feel like they are not willing to help us; they just want the money. Not my missing wife,” a tearful Wanjohi told the Nation.
The body of Waithera remains at Nakuru City Morgue awaiting autopsy.
