Soy MP tips Ruto for early victory over United Opposition in 2027 polls

Soy MP David Kiplagat has declared that President William Ruto will triumph in the 2027 elections, highlighting deep vision and outdated strategies by the United Opposition’s brigades.
Speaking in an interview on a local TV station on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, the lawmaker scoffed at opposition leaders in what he termed as their narrow thinking, accusing them of accelerating regional politics instead of national unity.
“I used to believe we could defeat the United Opposition at 11 a.m., but now I believe we will defeat them at 6 a.m., when polling stations open. With their backward strategy of regional subdivision and tribal bigotry, their house will most definitely crumble,” he said.
“If this is the mind and the strategy that is going on in that room of United Opposition, then we have already won. They are in another generation, subdividing Kenyans and telling us that every region must form its own party. That is not unity; that is building apartments of regions pretending to be one house,” he added.
His remarks come amid growing speculation over the future of the anti-Ruto team, which appears to be in a spat even as they maintain they will not be disrupted from the wantam movement to unseat the Head of State in 2027.
Meanwhile, the rift continues to simmer in the group, with the Jubilee party expected to back former Interior and Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, whom the DCP boss Rigathi Gachagua has been pushing to have a Gusii faction to negotiate in the opposition camp.
However, the Soy MP argues the move betrays a lack of true national vision, a blunder that is going to cost them dearly.
“They are so mad at Matiang’i because he has not registered a Kisii party. They want him to join this United Opposition as a Kisii leader, not as a Kenyan leader. That tells you everything,” he quipped.
“They are trying to create kingdoms in every region. Every time a party is registered, it is like a kingdom. That thinking is outdated and dangerous. Let us not try to bring the Buganda Kingdom politics into Kenya.”
The 2027 contest
While Gachagua has declared himself the sole opposition leader capable of unseating Ruto in 2027, the litmus test is whether the camp will be able to fixate on a national vision.
The Lawmaker has compared it with the Kenya Kwanza alliance, describing it as a coalition built on national unity rather than tribal affiliations.
“Did you hear Speaker Wetang’ula telling Mudavadi, ‘Why are you here when you already have a party?’ No. That is unity. That is the kind of politics we want in Kenya,” he emphasised.
He urged Kenyans to reject leaders who seek to divide the nation through outdated, regional politics and instead support those working to unite the country.
“Those kinds of politicians should be condemned and not allowed to germinate in this country,” he slammed.
