8 suspects arrested in connection with stolen fertilisers

An intelligence-led operation was conducted in Luluma Village, Makiri area, and Maua Township by law enforcement officers from Igembe South Sub-County, leading to the arrest.

In a statement on X, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) noted that they managed to recover 63 bags of government fertiliser stolen during the June 25, 2025, demonstration.

The operation also led to the seizure of one motor vehicle, a silver Probox registration number KCW 822T, and three motorcycles: KMFS 106Q, KMFY 687H, and KMFM 529E, believed to have been used to transport the stolen goods.

“In a separate incident in Malindi, Kilifi County, fourteen suspects were apprehended following a meticulous forensic analysis that linked them to property vandalism during the recent protests,” DCI said.

All the suspects are currently in custody, undergoing processing pending arraignment.

The law enforcement officers are following more leads to apprehend additional suspects and recover looted items.

Elsewhere in Embu, six people were arrested as part of the individuals who took advantage of the protests to steal and destroy property.

The suspects were arrested on June 28, 2025.

Those arrested included a 22-year-old, a 19-year-old, and a 45-year-old allegedly found with a stolen washing machine, and a 28-year-old, in whose house assorted retail products suspected to have been stolen from a shop were recovered.

A 29-year-old was found with bottles of alleged stolen whisky and a bunch of steel wire, while a 26-year-old was arrested at Downtown Guest House with various stolen items, including two desktop computers, a TV set, wrist watches, three pairs of boots, jackets, several pairs of new jeans trousers, and extension cables.

The suspects are currently in custody and are set to be arraigned at the Embu Law Courts today.

The government has reiterated its commitment to restoring law and order while safeguarding constitutional freedoms.
