Bribery is satanic: Kindiki tells public officers to be content with their salaries

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has condemned bribery and corruption, describing the vices as satanic.

The DP has urged public officers to be satisfied with their salaries and wealth acquired through honest means.

Kindiki spoke on Wednesday while presiding over the opening of the Kithimani Land Registry and the issuance of title deeds in Yatta Constituency, Machakos County.

Addressing residents during the event, the Deputy President called on the church to continue praying for the country, saying corruption remained one of the biggest obstacles to national development.

"Bribery is satanic, and it is one of the things fueling corruption and destroying our country. If you are a government official, be content with your salary and the wealth you have earned through your own sweat," Kindiki said.

He also appealed to religious leaders to continue praying for the country to overcome corruption.

"And you, pastor, continue praying for us so that corruption comes to an end. We will also help you build the church," he said.

Kindiki was in Yatta to officially open the Kithimani Land Registry and oversee the issuance of title deeds to residents, saying the government remained committed to improving public services and securing land ownership for Kenyan

His remarks come three days after he urged leaders and residents of the Mt Kenya region to reject attempts to divide them along political lines ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking during the 36th anniversary celebrations of the Embu ACK Diocese on Sunday, the Deputy President said the region's unity was more important than political competition and dismissed efforts by the opposition to exploit the outcome of the recent Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election.

"We have a long history of unity as the people of Mt Kenya. There is nothing that can divide us. Those who think they can divide us will not succeed," Kindiki said.

He argued that the Ol Kalou by-election should not be interpreted as a measure of the next presidential election, insisting that the 2027 contest would instead be determined by the government's development record.

"It was not a presidential election so there is no problem because the voters chose their MP. Elections for President will be done next year and we are ready for it," he said..

The Deputy President said the Kenya Kwanza administration would campaign on projects delivered across the country, including roads, markets, hospitals, water and electricity programmes, rather than political rhetoric.

He also appealed for national unity, saying Kenya's peace and stability should remain a shared responsibility for leaders, the church and all citizens regardless of political affiliation.
