Former Governor Mike Sonko Addresses Pastor Nganga's Stance on His Daughter's Domestic Violence Case

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has responded to Pastor Ng'ang'a, who had criticized his move to publicize on social media the confrontation that Sonko had with his daughter's husband, who allegedly physically assaulted the politician's daughter.

In a video published by Sonko on November 24, 2025, on his social media platform, the former Nairobi boss, seemingly angry, defended his actions, saying that he published the video to sensitize other women undergoing similar gender-based violence incidents.

Pastor Ng'ang'a had addressed the matter during a televised church service on November 23, 2025, where he criticized Sonko for publicly confronting the daughter's husband.

The preacher warned that the incident could have lasting negative effects on the children. Pastor Ng'ang'a opined that Sonko ought to have solved the matter privately.

Ng'ang'a was against the public revelation by the former governor where he claimed to be funding his daughter's family and schooling the kids

When your daughter marries a poor man, even if you are schooling her kids, you can not put those things in public. You can't beat the man, because it is not right to beat the man in front of your daughter," the preacher reiterated.

The preacher claimed the incident is, in Ng'ang'a's words, 'destroying the marriage system', arguing that it created fear that could affect the daughter's marital life..

Sonko responded to Pastor Ng'ang'a's criticism, defending that he had to stand up for his daughter. Sonko claimed that he has been silent on earlier cases when his daughters faced physical abuse.

He further said that gender-based violence cases are not things to be silent about, urging Kenyans facing GBV to speak up.

The pastor, on the other hand, advised the husband's parents to solve the matter with Sonko's daughter privately.

This comes as the world is commemorating the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence that is starting today.
