I am not a bishop! Ruto lightly corrects Museveni in joint address

A light moment was on Wednesday at State House, Nairobi during President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda’s official visit.

It all started while they were making a joint address following closed door bilateral meetings.

While making his address, Museveni referred to the words from the Book of Matthew 23:23 but he was not sure where they were.

“They left undone what they ought to have done and they did that which they ought not to have done and there is no truth in them,” he said

As he sought to clarify where the words were written, Ruto said it was from the bible.

It is then that the Ugandan President referred to him as a Bishop.

“It's in the bible also. The Bishop has told you,” he said as officials present burst into laughter.

Museveni was referring to how the current generation of young people operates.

(Matthew 23: 23 reads - “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices—mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former.)

In response, Ruto clarified that he is not a Bishop but has committed to that when he retires from the presidency, he will become an Evangelist.

“And just to make a small correction, I am not a bishop! But I have made a commitment that when I'm done being president I will become an evangelist

The President commended Museveni for his strong Christian upbringing saying that he has witnessed him practice it during a previous visit to Uganda.

“I know that you have a serious grounding as a Christian. I came to see you and you prayed for food in Kinyankole I asked why and you said that is how you were taught when you were young,” Ruto said.
