I'm support Matiang'i for presidency - Pauline Njoroge says after photo with Gachagua goes viral

Digital communication strategist Pauline Njoroge has responded to critics after a picture of her with Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua sparked debates about whether she was now working for the opposition.

A section of the social media users accused her of betrayal and being tribal.

In a statement on Monday, Njoroge confirmed that she was now working with the opposition and said her political focus is on supporting former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i for the presidency in 2027.

Matiang'i and Gachagua are part of a one political camp that seeks to dislodge President William Ruto in 2027.

Njoroge explained that her decision to support Matiang’i is rooted in conviction, not tribal loyalty, adding that she will work with opposition leaders to build a better Kenya.

“I am now supporting Dr. Fred Matiang’i for the presidency in 2027. I deeply believe and know that he is capable of delivering far more effective and progressive leadership than what we currently have. As I support this cause, I will also be engaging with others working in the opposition, including Rigathi Gachagua, Kalonzo Musyoka, Eugene Wamalwa, Governor Natembeya, Martha Karua, and others who are walking with us in this journey, towards a better and greater Kenya.

“So, if you are a Kalenjin who supports Ruto and wants to call me tribal for backing Matiang’i, suit yourself. And if you are a Luo supporting Ruto simply because Baba is engaging with him, and yet you want to label me tribal for standing with Matiang’i, suit yourself too. I am Pauline. I will always follow my heart and stand by what I believe is right, unapologetically,” she wrote on X.

Pauline Njoroge further explained that her support for Azimio leader Raila Odinga during the 2022 presidential election was based on a genuine belief that he was the better candidate compared to President William Ruto—a belief she still holds today.

She said her involvement with Raila’s African Union Commission (AUC) bid was rooted in her long-standing engagement with the African Union.

“My love and support for Baba in 2022 and for his AUC campaign were sincere, and it remains so,” she said.

“But that love and support is not transferable.”

Pauline revealed that she briefly worked with the Kenya Kwanza government through an office she respects, though she did not name it.

However, she quit, citing deep concerns over governance failures and a troubled conscience.
