Khalwale thanks Sifuna for Sh500,000 support after wife’s death

Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has expressed gratitude to his Nairobi counterpart Edwin Sifuna for supporting him with Sh500,000 following the death of his wife, Gloria Khalwale.

Speaking during Gloria’s burial ceremony in Kakamega on Friday, Khalwale said Sifuna gave him the money after learning of his wife’s death, helping the family meet some of the expenses involved in the burial preparations.

“Edwin, learning of the death of my wife, gave me half a million (Sh500,000), which helped with the burial preparations,” Khalwale said.

Khalwale thanked Sifuna and others who stood with him and his family during the difficult period following the loss of his wife.

Sifuna, who is also the Linda Mwananchi movement leader, was among political leaders and other allies who attended the burial ceremony.

Khalwale also used the occasion to reaffirm his political support for Sifuna, telling the Nairobi senator that he was “in a good place” and expressing confidence in his political prospects.

The Kakamega senator pledged to rally support for Sifuna as he seeks to advance his political ambitions, including a possible presidential bid in the 2027 general election.

Khalwale also spoke of the political influence he believes the opposition could wield if its leaders unite behind a common ticket ahead of the 2027 polls.

He said a ticket bringing together Sifuna and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka stood a strong chance of securing the opposition nomination and defeating President William Ruto in the next presidential election.

The leader cited recent Swiss poll findings as an indication of the potential strength of such a political arrangement.

He further suggested that the support of Western Kenya voters could play a significant role in determining the outcome of the 2027 presidential contest.

Khalwale said Kakamega alone had the potential to deliver one million votes. The Kakamega senator has increasingly aligned with the Linda Mwananchi team in recent months.

His association with the team became public earlier last month when he joined the movement’s leadership during its political tour of Trans Nzoia County.

He has since accompanied Sifuna and other leaders during the movement’s mobilisation, including rallies and public engagements in Western and Nyanza regions.
