KNEC to roll out SMS to help parents confirm exam registration

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has urged parents to use an SMS verification system to confirm that their children have been registered for national examinations.

This system will be rolled out in April.

KNEC Chief Executive Officer David Njeng’ere said parents with learners in Grade 6, Grade 9 and Form Four should take personal responsibility to ensure registration has been completed.

“I want to invite every parent with a child in Grade 6, Grade 9 and Form Four to take an interest and find out whether their child has been registered,” Njeng’ere said.

He explained that although candidate registration is conducted in February and March, KNEC continues to receive complaints from parents after the deadline.

Sometimes we get calls from parents saying their children were not registered, yet the registration period is already over,” he said.

Njeng’ere noted that KNEC has provided an SMS service in April to allow parents to independently confirm registration details.

“In April, parents can use the SMS platform to ensure that every child has been registered,” he said.

The KNEC boss also said the council has put in place measures to support teachers handling senior school assessments under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

“For senior school, KNEC has developed a platform and a portal where teachers can take their time to build their capacity in CBC,” Njeng’ere added.
