Malala says Gachagua’s return will be marked as a public holiday

Democracy for the Citizens’ Party Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala has claimed that the anticipated return of the former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua would be marked as a public holiday.
Gachagua is scheduled to return to the country on Thursday, August 21, 2025.
The second deputy president has been on an official tour of the United States. During the visit, he met Kenyan communities in cities including Seattle, Boston, Dallas, Kansas City, and Baltimore

This comes after Gachagua announced that he has been forced to cut short his trip in the United States of America, citing political reasons.
According to the DCP party leader, his planned engagements will not go on as planned since he will be travelling back to the Country to attend to political matters.
Gachagua made his announcement on Thursday, August 14 2025, in his official X account while apologising to organisers and Kenyans in diaspora who he was scheduled to meet.
“I had a very successful and fulfilling visit to the United States of America with serious engagements with Kenyans in the Diaspora. I regret being unable to visit the scheduled remaining States since I need to get back home to join our party,” Gachagua wrote.
According to the former second in command, he has revealed that his trip has been cut short following plans to prepare for an upcoming By- Elections by his Democracy for Citizens’ Party( DCP) in various parts of the country.
“In preparation for the upcoming By-Elections in various parts of our country,” he revealed.
The former deputy president rendered an apology to organisers and Kenyans he was set to meet during his two months planned trip while promising them that he will be back sometime the following year.
“I am sorry to cut my trip short; my profound apologies to the organisers and Kenyans whom I were to meet; the same has been rescheduled for early next year,” Gachagua noted.
“I have taken a few days to rest before heading home, and as promised, my itinerary will be made public. I thank the Kenyans in the States for the love, warmth, and hospitality they accorded to us,” he wrote.
In addition, he thanked his organisers as well as officials from the DCP party for planning his diaspora trip.
“I salute the organisers and officials of the DCP chapters for superb planning, organisation, and meticulous coordination. You are simply the best. God Bless you all, and God Bless Kenya,” Gachagua wrote.
