Matiang’i, Kalonzo steal show dancing to Anguka Nayo song

Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka stole the spotlight on Friday when they broke into dance to the popular Anguka Nayo song during a public forum in Yatta Constituency.

The duo was attending the University Dons Forum at Kithimani when the hit track was played, prompting both leaders to join in the lively moment.

In a video seen by The Star, the two politicians could be seen exchanging smiles as they showcased their moves to the widely recognised Arbantone jam.

Other leaders and attendees joined the lighthearted performance as attendees captured the spectacle on their phones.

The crowd responded enthusiastically, with many recording the moment, highlighting how the catchy track has continued to cross into mainstream political spaces.

Matiang’i, known for his arguably serious public demeanour, surprised many with his relaxed posture as he moved his shoulders rhythmically, his arms mimicking the distinctive dance style the song is famous for.

Kalonzo, who appeared amused by Matiang’i’s efforts, laughed heartily while keeping pace with the beat, drawing puzzled reactions from the audience.

The pair was not alone in the celebratory mood.

Other notable leaders present during the event included United Opposition spokesperson Mukhisa Kituyi and former Public CS Justin Muturi.

The Anguka Nayo song, originally released by rap duo Wadagliz, has evolved from being just another Arbantone tune to becoming an anthem in Kenya’s political and social spaces.

It first gained prominence during the June 2024 Gen-Z finance bill protests, where it became a rallying soundtrack for youthful demonstrators over governance reforms.

Since then, it has transcended protest grounds and found its way into political rallies and official functions.
