Missing woman, 48, found buried in shallow grave in Kisii

Police in Kisii have arrested a man after the body of a woman who had been reported missing was discovered buried in a shallow grave in the Nyaura area.

The grim find has shocked residents as investigations into the killing and secret burial continue.

Police said a man suspected to be behind the killing and illegal burial was arrested in connection with the incident, which occurred on Monday.

The victim, identified as 48-year-old Zipporah Bosibori, had been reported missing by her family earlier that morning. Hours later, police were alerted that she had been killed and secretly buried within a compound in the area.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a freshly dug grave covered with soil and marked by a newly planted banana tree in front of a house

Police detained the homeowner for questioning and later sought a court order to exhume the body for further examination. Investigators are yet to determine the motive behind the killing.

Meanwhile, in Mau Narok, Nakuru County, police are probing the death of a four-year-old boy who drowned in a swamp.

The child had been reported missing on November 8, 2025, and his body was discovered three days later, on November 11, in a pool of water on a neighbour’s farm.

According to police, the swamp was once a fish pond but had been abandoned for some time. It is believed the boy wandered into the area and accidentally drowned. The body was taken to the mortuary as investigations continue.

In another incident, police in Rhamu, Mandera County, seized 700 rolls of bhang and an additional three kilograms of unprocessed cannabis during a raid on a house following reports of gunfire.

The operation was prompted by a gunshot heard from the house, prompting neighbours to alert authorities. Upon arrival, officers found the house locked and forced their way in, recovering the drugs along with a pair of military boots, a jungle uniform, and an unregistered motorcycle.

A spent 7.62x51mm cartridge was also recovered from the scene. Police said investigations are ongoing, and the recovered items have been secured at the local station.

Authorities say the area has increasingly become a key route for drug traffickers, with smugglers from Ethiopia reportedly using Mandera as a packaging and transit point for local and cross-border distribution.
