Oburu Oginga: Edwin Sifuna communicates the true position of ODM Party
Orange Democratic Movement Party leader and Siaya County Senator Oburu Odinga has affirmed Nairobi County Senator Edwin Sifuna’s firm position of the ODM party after the loss of the former party leader Raila Odinga.
In an interview with a local media house on Sunday, November 2, 2025, Oburu backed up ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna for communicating the true position of the ODM Party.
On his part, Oburu revealed that indeed Sifuna’s communications on ODM stands are the exact path that the party is taking while praising him, stating that he is doing a good job in echoing ODM’s party position.
“Whatever Sifuna says, he was within rights to say so because that is the true position of ODM in the matter; he is not isolated. He is doing a good job,” Oburu said.
Sifuna remarks on ODM leadership
His remarks comes as ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has been on record urging party leaders to remain united and avoid fighting over Raila Odinga’s political inheritance following the former opposition leader’s death.
Addressing the media on Monday, October 27, 2025, Sifuna said the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) must remain strong and true to Raila’s vision, warning that divisions would only betray his legacy.
Speaking during the ODM Central Committee presser, Sifuna called on members to resist the urge to split the party or engage in internal battles for control. He said Raila had built ODM on firm values that should continue guiding the movement even after his death.
“We now call upon the leadership and membership of the party to rally behind the late leader’s dreams and desire for this beloved movement,” Sifuna said.
He cautioned leaders against falling into the trap of division, saying history had shown that great movements often lose direction when their founders die. “Let us resist the temptations to scatter in despair or to fight over his political inheritance as leaders often do when giants fall,” he stated.
Vows to keep Raila’s vision alive
Sifuna assured party members that the leadership is committed to keeping ODM united and focused on Raila’s ideals. He said the party would not allow internal wrangles or personal ambitions to destroy what Raila had built over decades.
“We commit here in unison as we did during the funeral, that we will not be responsible for any break-up in the party or any unnecessary political turbulence that runs counter to Jakom’s dreams,” he said
