Saba Saba: Police say no protest notice given, keep Eldoret on high alert

Anti-riot police are patrolling Eldoret to maintain tight security amid anticipated Saba Saba protests.

Security teams in lorries and Land Rovers have been moving around the town to monitor the situation and ensure businesses operate as usual.

Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Wilberforce Sicharani said they had not received any notification of planned protests in Eldoret or other parts of the region.

"We are monitoring the situation across all areas to ensure business continues as usual in every part of the county," said Sicharani.

Most of the security teams are deployed along the Eldoret-Webuye Road and the highway leading to Kisumu.

"We do not expect any incidents, but we remain on alert to respond and help maintain security in line with our mandate," said Sicharani.

The heightened security comes as parts of the country brace for Saba Saba demonstrations, with authorities maintaining a visible presence to deter any disruption.

Leaders in the region have urged residents to continue with their normal activities and avoid taking part in the protests.

Deputy Governor Evans Kapkea said peace and security were essential for development and urged young people to take advantage of the opportunities available in the county.

Sicharani said the security teams would remain on the ground throughout the day.
