Suspected armed robber arrested in Kiambaa

Police in Kiambaa Sub-County, Kiambu, have arrested a suspected armed robber believed to be behind a spate of attacks that had unsettled residents in Rweno and its surroundings.

According to the authorities, the 26-year-old man was tracked down after officers received actionable intelligence from locals who had grown weary of the wave of terror in the area.

In a statement on Saturday, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) noted that he was suspected of being one of the individuals driving insecurity in the region.

“A notorious robbery suspect who has been unleashing a reign of terror in Rweno and Kiambaa has finally been smoked out of his hideout in a police raid that also led to the recovery of a retay falcon pistol,” read part of the statement.

“He was cornered by Kiambaa Sub-County law enforcement officers following a tip-off from members of the public.”

During the operation, the authorities say the suspect was found hiding in a rented room.

After his capture, he escorted the officers to his residence, where they carried out a detailed search.

Inside, they discovered a retay falcon pistol.

Authorities believe the weapon was deployed in a number of robberies reported.

"The seized weapon has since been forwarded to the National Forensic Laboratory for ballistic analysis to complement the ongoing investigations," the detective agency said.

The suspect is currently in custody and is expected to be arraigned in court to face the charges.

The incident comes days after police in Garissa announced a breakthrough in the fight against violent robberies, after arresting a 37-year-old female suspect and recovering a stolen Glock 17 pistol.

The weapon is believed to have been violently snatched from a licensed firearm holder on the night of August 5, 2025, as he returned home from a mosque in Bulla Buris.

The authorities say three masked assailants confronted him, one armed with an AK-47, another with a pistol, and the third wielding a rungu.

"A vicious blow to the head sent him crashing to the ground unconscious. When he regained consciousness moments later, his Glock 17 pistol and some cash were gone," DCI stated.

Following intensive investigations, officers tracked down the suspect in Madogo.

She later led police to her house in Bula Kartasi, where a search was conducted.

Recovered items included a Glock 17 pistol loaded with 17 live rounds, a pistol holster, a military smoke jacket, a service-colour belt, and 11 passports belonging to different individuals.

The authorities have since reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order and urged the public to remain vigilant.
