Three men wake up intoxicated, robbed of phones, cash and laptops at a Sagana hotel

Police are investigating an incident in which three men in Kirinyaga reported being intoxicated with an unknown substance before losing valuables and money at a hotel in Sagana.

The incident was reported at Sagana Police Station on Saturday, September 26, 2026, after the three men said they had spent Friday night at a hotel in Sagana Town, where a local music entertainment event was taking place.

According to police, one of the men, who is from Kitengela, and two others from Sagana met three women they did not know at the entertainment venue.

The group reportedly spent time together before leaving and booking separate rooms at a nearby hotel.

The three men said they woke up at around midday on Saturday and found themselves alone, with the women nowhere to be seen.

They later realised that their valuables were missing and reported that they may have been intoxicated with an unknown substance.

Police said one of the men lost an ignition key, a Samsung mobile phone valued at Sh200,000, a laptop valued at Sh30,000 and two wristwatches valued at Sh500.

Another reported losing a Redmi mobile phone valued at Sh32,000, while the third lost an Infinix Hot 10 phone valued at Sh20,000, an HP laptop valued at Sh30,000 and Sh130,000 allegedly withdrawn from his M-Pesa account.

Police officers who visited the hotel recovered several liquor glasses containing residual substances from the rooms. The items were collected and preserved as exhibits as investigations continue.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged intoxication and theft and are pursuing leads to identify the three women.

The incident comes amid concerns over similar cases reported in the area, with police conducting operations targeting suspected gangs linked to such incidents.

In a separate incident in Kisumu, three men died after they were reportedly subjected to mob justice following allegations of robbery in Ombeyi.

The incident occurred in Wanjare Village, Obumba Sub-Location, within Ombeyi Location, as a group was accompanying the body of a man identified as Hussein Ramadhan alias Bolt from the Kisumu County Referral Hospital mortuary to his home in Kasese.

Police said the group became unruly upon reaching Chiga Centre and allegedly began robbing members of the public, prompting officers from Chiga Police Station to intervene.

The body was eventually escorted safely to its destination.

However, another group reportedly proceeded towards Ombeyi Centre and allegedly began stealing mobile phones from members of the public along the way.

Members of the public reportedly chased the suspects in different directions before some were attacked.

Police officers who arrived at the scene found five men being assaulted by members of the public on Friday.

The officers rescued the five and took them to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital, where three were pronounced dead on arrival.

The bodies, whose identities had not been established, were moved to the hospital mortuary pending identification and post-mortem examinations.

Police are investigating both the robbery allegations and the subsequent deaths.

The National Police Service has repeatedly urged the public not to take the law into their own hands, but instead to hand over suspected offenders to authorities for investigation and prosecution.
