We will come after you! Ruto warns protesters behind property destruction

President William Ruto has issued a fresh warning to individuals behind the recent wave of property destruction during protests across the country, saying the government will go after them regardless of their status.

According to President Ruto, the destruction witnessed in towns across the country was not spontaneous but coordinated.

He insisted that the rule of law must prevail to protect lives, livelihoods, and public infrastructure.

“Those of you who participated in destroying property in our towns, whether it's Nyeri, Murang’a, Meru, Embu or Kirinyaga, we will come after you," he said.

"Especially those who planned the violence. Don’t tell us it’s political persecution. It is what it is."

Ruto, speaking firmly, said the government has a duty to protect public and private property and vowed to hold all instigators accountable, including politicians.

“Whether you're a leader or hold any other position, if you incite violence, pay criminals to cause havoc, burn businesses or destroy property, we will hold you to account. Whoever you are,” he declared.

The President reiterated that police have both the mandate and the ability under the Constitution to bring offenders to justice.

“Those who destroyed businesses must answer. And to the politicians, tutakutana na nyinyi,” he added.

He dismissed claims that legal action against culprits amounts to a political witch-hunt, saying he had exercised enough restraint.

“Enough is enough. I’ve tolerated this for too long,” he said.

Ruto also urged political and religious leaders to stop inciting youth into violence, lawlessness and destruction. “We must step back as a nation and ask ourselves, is this really what we want to do?”

The president made the remarks during the 9th Edition of the Kaptagat Integrated Conservation Programme, Simotwo, Elgeyo Marakwet County.

He further urged the opposition to present their development agenda to Kenyans rather than stirring lawlessness, hate and tribalism.

He said, "We will stand firm against those selfish leaders who exploit our youth to rescue their dwindling political careers."
