Albert Ojwang’s Father Moved by President Ruto’s Heartfelt Phone Call

President William Ruto personally reached out to the late blogger Albert Ojwang's family through a phone call to pass his condolence message, it has been revealed.

The late Albert Ojwang's father, Meshack Ojwang, made the revelation on Monday, June 16, after returning to his native Homa Bay following a week in Nairobi, where he initially went to follow up on his son's case before learning of his death.

Ojwang was confirmed dead on Saturday, June 8, in a death that has sparked a chain of events, including personal intervention from the president

While expressing gratitude to President Ruto, Meshak Ojwang also revealed he was honoured to have received a personal call from the Head of State, whom he claims empathised with him in the wake of his son's passing..

"I want to thank the President for taking my son as his own," he said. "So many young people have died in recent weeks, including yesterday and today, but

"He chose to take up my pain and pass his condolences on the phone, and I'm very grateful for that."

The late Ojwang's father arrived back in his native Homa Bay on Sunday, June 15, after a turbulent week in Nairobi. As per customs, Meshack was supposed to officially announce to the villagers that Albert is no more.

Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has since visited the late Ojwang's father at his home, with the county boss announcing that besides the phone gesture from President Ruto, the Head of State had also extended financial support of Ksh2 million to assist the family.

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM ) Raila Odinga also chimed in with financial support amounting to Ksh1 million, while the Homa Bay County government set off plans to construct a two-bedroom house for Ojwang's family.

On Sunday, the late Ojwang's wife was also handed an economic lifeline by Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja, who offered her a permanent and pensionable job.

The county boss had earlier committed to rallying friends to help purchase a plot in Homa Bay and construct rental units for Ojwang’s parents to generate sustainable income.

Meanwhile, as the family seeks closure on the death of Ojwang, several twists in the late blogger's murder case were witnessed on Monday, including the stepping aside of Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat from his position to allow for adequate investigations.
