Autopsy: KMTC student died from multiple internal injuries
The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) student whose body was found at the institution's Nairobi Campus died from multiple internal injuries, a postmortem examination has established, as investigations into her death continue.
Ann Odhiambo Adhiambo, a Higher Diploma in Clinical Medicine student, was found dead on the floor of a room at Kenyatta Hostel within the Nairobi Campus at about 11 p.m. on July 7.
The autopsy, conducted on Friday at the Nairobi Funeral Home, concluded that she died from multiple internal injuries.
Pathologists also noted black marks around her tongue, suggesting she may have suffered oxygen deprivation before her death.
The examination further revealed bite marks on her abdomen and blood stains around her nose. Detectives are investigating the significance of the findings as part of the ongoing probe.
Police are investigating the death as a suspected murder after documenting injuries on the body and have intensified efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Investigators say Adhiambo had reportedly been involved in a heated exchange with fellow students over a missing pair of trousers before her body was discovered.
Detectives are examining whether the incident is connected to her death.
Relatives who attended the postmortem appealed to investigators to expedite the probe and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
“We want to know what happened and see justice served,” one family member said after the examination.
In a statement, KMTC Chief Executive Officer Dr Kelly Oluoch said the deceased joined the college in September 2024 and was pursuing a Higher Diploma in Clinical Medicine.
He said the matter had been reported to the relevant security agencies, which have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding her death.
KMTC said it is fully cooperating with investigators as inquiries continue.
Dr Oluoch conveyed the institution's condolences to the bereaved family, fellow students, staff and friends, describing the loss as deeply painful.
“The College stands with the family in grief and will continue to offer the necessary support during this difficult period,” he said.
Police have recorded statements from several students as investigations into Adhiambo's death continue.
