Bouncer detained after 22-year-old dies following lounge fight in Kasarani
A 22-year-old man was killed after a fight broke out at a popular lounge along Kamiti Road in Nairobi’s Kasarani area on Saturday morning.
The deceased, identified as Joseph Gachuhi Kaburu, was allegedly seriously assaulted by a bouncer following a confrontation at the bar.
The bouncer was detained as an investigation into the incident continues.
According to police, the incident was reported by the manager of the establishment, who said a man had entered the premises and appeared suspicious.
The man was reportedly questioned by a bouncer leading to a disagreement that escalated into a fight.
Police officers visited the scene and found Kaburu lying dead in the parking yard.
Police established that the bouncer had allegedly assaulted Kaburu during the confrontation.
The crime scene had, however, been interfered with after the area was washed before investigators arrived.
The bouncer was arrested and detained at the police station as investigations continued. Police said they are investigating murder.
Kaburu’s body was moved to the Nairobi City Funeral Home pending a postmortem examination.
Such incidents where revellers are attacked and seriously wounded or left for dead in social joints have been on the rise amid investigations to address the trend.
Meanwhile, a National Police Reservist (NPR) officer shot and killed a 47-year-old man in Mutuati, Meru County, in an incident that is now under investigation.
The incident occurred on August 15, 2026, after the NPR officer allegedly shot Julius Kariunga using a G3 rifle.
According to police, the officer was armed with the firearm when he shot Kariunga, who sustained serious injuries and later succumbed.
After the shooting, the officer reportedly proceeded to Ndoleli Police Station, where he threw the rifle at the station.
Police officers visited the scene and confirmed Kariunga’s death.
The G3 rifle was recovered and secured by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) as an exhibit.
Kariunga’s body was moved to the Nyambene General Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination.
The motive behind the shooting had not been established.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the shooting are ongoing.
Elsewhere, the body of an unidentified woman believed to be about 60 years old was found floating in the Tana River near Segerea Market in Tharaka North, Tharaka Nithi County.
The body was discovered by local residents on Saturday, police said.
Police officers visited the area and retrieved the body from the river.
Police said the woman was found naked and had a deep cut on her forehead, which appeared to have been inflicted by a sharp object.
Preliminary investigations indicated that she may have been killed elsewhere before her body was dumped into the river.
The scene was processed and documented by investigators.
The body was moved to Marimanti Level 4 Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending an autopsy as police investigate the circumstances surrounding her death and work to establish her identity.
