Eugene hands Sifuna Kijana Wamalwa's book

DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa on Tuesday presented Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna with a copy of his late brother Michael Wamalwa Kijana’s book, My Country First.

Wamalwa was accompanied by his niece, Alice Muthoni Wamalwa, the eldest daughter of the late vice president, when they visited Sifuna at his office to present the book on behalf of the Wamalwa family.

The meeting brought together two leaders involved in efforts to shape a broader political arrangement ahead of the 2027 general election, while also hinting at possible cooperation between their respective camps.

In a message shared after the meeting, Wamalwa said the presentation of the book was an opportunity to extend the family’s appreciation to Sifuna and wished him well as he reads the late vice president’s account of his political journey.

"Today I was delighted with my niece Alice Muthoni Wamalwa, eldest daughter of the late VP Michael Wamalwa Kijana,on behalf of the Wamalwa family,to present his freshly launched book "My Country First, to my brother Senator Edwin Sifuna, whom we had invited together with the entire Linda mwanainchi leadership to the anniversary celebrations, but who couldn't make it because of their weekend retreat," he said.

He also used the occasion to suggest the possibility of closer cooperation between the political formations associated with the two leaders.

Wamalwa referred to the ongoing efforts by Linda Mwananchi to secure registration of its political vehicle, saying he looked forward to the two sides coming together once the process is completed.

He invoked previous political alliances involving prominent leaders as examples of how different political formations can unite ahead of an election.

Wamalwa cited the National Alliance of Kenya (NAK), which brought together the late Michael Wamalwa, Charity Ngilu and Mwai Kibaki, as well as the 2002 cooperation involving Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka, George Saitoti and Moody Awori under the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP).

Sifuna also acknowledged the Tuesday meeting in a post on X, thanking the Wamalwa family for the book and recognising the late vice president’s contribution to Kenya’s political history.

“Ndugu Eugene Wamalwa and his niece Alice dropped by the office today to present me with the Late Michael Kijana Wamalwa’s book ‘My Country First’,” Sifuna said.

He thanked the family for its contribution to the country and expressed hope that they would continue working together to advance the late vice president’s aspirations for Kenya.

“I thank the entire Wamalwa family for their contribution to this Nation’s history and hope that we will continue walking together to see the dreams Mike had for the country become reality,” Sifuna said.

The meeting comes as political leaders continue to explore possible alliances and partnerships ahead of the 2027 polls.

Wamalwa has been positioning DAP-K within the wider opposition political landscape, while Sifuna has been associated with the Linda Mwananchi initiative.

My Country First was launched by retired President Uhuru Kenyatta on Sunday, August 23, 2026, during a ceremony at Milimani Grounds in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County.

The book traces Michael Wamalwa’s journey from his early life to national leadership, according to his younger brother, DAP-Kenya leader Eugene Wamalwa.

The presentation of the book therefore served both as a tribute to Michael Wamalwa’s political legacy and an opportunity for the two leaders to signal continued engagement as political realignments take shape.
