Ruto mourns Boni Khalwale's wife Gloria Sekeiyan
President William Ruto has condoled with Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale following the death of his wife, Gloria Sekeiyan Khalwale.
Ruto, in a message, said he and First Lady Rachel Ruto were standing with Khalwale and his family as they mourned the loss.
“Mama Rachel and I extend our heartfelt condolences to Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale following the passing of his beloved wife, Gloria Sekeiyan,” Ruto said.
“We stand with Senator Khalwale and his family in this moment of immense grief.”
Khalwale said Gloria died Saturday morning after suddenly collapsing.
The senator said she suffered a heart attack.
“My dear wife, Gloria Sekeiyan Khalwale, has this morning suddenly collapsed and died after a heart attack,” Khalwale announced.
Ruto described the death of a spouse, companion and mother as a painful loss that leaves a deep void in a family.
“The loss of a spouse, companion and mother leaves a deep void, and we pray that God grants the family strength, comfort and peace as they mourn and cherish her memory,” the President said.
“May Gloria’s soul rest in eternal peace.”
Cabinet Secretary for Cooperatives and MSMEs Development Wycliffe Oparanya also extended his condolences to Khalwale and his family following Gloria's sudden passing.
I extend my heartfelt condolences to Kakamega County Senator, Dr Boni Khalwale and his family following the sudden passing of his beloved wife, Mrs Gloria Sekeiyan Khalwale,” Oparanya said.
“During this difficult moment, I pray that God grants them strength, comfort and courage as they come to terms with this painful loss. May her soul rest in eternal peace.”
DAP-Kenya party leader Eugene Wamalwa also mourned Gloria, saying he was conveying condolences on behalf of his family and the wider party.
“On behalf of my family, and the larger DAP-Kenya family, I wish to relay my deepest condolences to my brother Dr Boni Khalwale, and his family on the sudden death of his dear wife Gloria Sekeyian Khalwale,” Wamalwa said.
“Eternal rest grant her Oh Lord, may perpetual light shine upon her, may she rest in peace.”
Former Chief Justice David Maraga also expressed sympathy to Khalwale and his family.
“I express my deep condolences to you, Hon. Dr Boni Khalwale and to your family on the sudden demise of your dear wife Mrs Gloria Sekeiyan Khalwale,” Maraga said.
“I pray for the Lord's strength, comfort and mercies for you, your children and your family during these difficult times.”
Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa described her passing as sudden and extended his sympathies to Khalwale, his family and friends.
Bumula MP Jack Wamboka also mourned Gloria, describing her death as a devastating loss and saying the Linda Mwananchi team stood with Khalwale during the difficult period.
Gloria was one of Khalwale's wives and the mother of eight of his 17 children.
The senator disclosed details of his family in February 2024, saying his late first wife, Adelaide, was the mother of three children, Josephine Umina had three, Gloria had eight, and Diana Moragwa had three.
