Building under construction collapses in South C
A building under construction has collapsed in South C.
In a statement, the Kenya Red Cross said the building collapsed early this morning in the Shopping Centre area of South C, Nairobi County.
"A multi-agency emergency response team had been deployed to the scene and was actively managing the situation," Kenya Red Cross said in a post on X.
Thick dust and scattered debris filled the area, forcing nearby residents and business owners to flee in panic down the streets.
It is still unclear how many workers were at the site and whether there are casualties
Ambulances have been placed on standby as the rescue mission continued.
This tragedy adds to a growing list of building collapses in Kenya.
On July 31, last year, a wall collapsed at a construction site on 147 Rhapta Road, injuring several workers.
Earlier in February, one person passed away when a three-storey building under construction collapsed on Third Avenue in Parklands, Nairobi.
Witnesses said the building collapsed at around 5:20 pm on February 11, after construction had ended and most workers had left.
