Gachagua to lead opposition charge in Ukambani meet-the-people blitz

Former Deputy President and leader of the Democracy for Citizens Party, Rigathi Gachagua, is set to begin a two-day meet-the-people tour of the Ukambani region starting Friday, June 6.

Gachagua, accompanied by several opposition leaders, will visit various parts of Ukambani, including Malili, Sultan Hamud, Emali, Makindu Town, Kibwezi, and Machinery.

The tour will continue on Saturday, June 7, with stops in Voi Town, Maungu/Taru, Mazeras, Mariakani, and Kisauni.

He will be joined by a coalition of prominent political figures, including People's Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa, and former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi, among others.

The our comes just days after the Democracy for Citizens Party held its inaugural National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Tuesday, June 3, at the party's headquarters in Lavington.

The meeting, chaired by Gachagua, marked a key step toward the party’s official launch later this month.

Speaking to the press after the NEC meeting, Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala announced that preparations for the launch are underway.

He noted that a technical committee has been formed to evaluate potential venues, with the goal of selecting a location that can accommodate the nearly 50,000 supporters expected to attend.

“We had several agenda items during our inaugural NEC meeting, one of which was the party launch,” Malala said.

“As you know, we had planned to launch at Kasarani on June 3, but were denied the venue. However, we have resolved to proceed with the launch this month and will announce the new venue soon.”

Malala also revealed that the NEC has established internal party structures in line with the DCP constitution.

These include the formation of an aspirants’ forum to unite individuals seeking elective positions in the 2027 elections.
