Governor Sakaja Pledges to Educate Albert Ojwang's Son, Clear Widow's College Fees

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has vowed to stand by the family of slain youth Albert Ojwang, the teacher and social media influencer who was killed in police custody.

Sakaja, who met with Ojwang's wife, son, and father at City Hall on Wednesday, revealed that he not only worked closely with Ojwang but that they were also close friends.

Owing to this relationship, Sakaja has vowed to ensure the family lacks nothing. He revealed that he would pay for Ojwang's son's school fees and clear the outstanding college fees for Albert’s widow, who is currently pursuing a course in community health.

The governor also promised to shoulder the burial expenses.

“I have known Albert for a long time. If you go through his Facebook and Twitter, you will see, he was a personal influencer, and we will walk with his family on this journey. We will take care of the burial expenses, educate his three-year-old son George Miles, and finish paying his widow’s college fees,” the governor confirmed.

The governor assured Ojwang's wife that upon completion of her studies, he will ensure she lands a job to support her son and fend for herself.

The support did not just end with the wife and son but was extended to the parents, where the governor promised to purchase land in Homa Bay and build rental units for them to help them earn a living.

While acknowledging the overwhelming support Kenyans have shown the family, Sakaja revealed that they have decided to invest all the contributions in a money market fund to secure the child's future, rather than spending it all on an event.

Kenyans came out in large numbers to support the family after Ojwang's father revealed that he was a struggling parent who depended on his son, who unfortunately lost his life.

Reacting to the tragic death of the social influencer, Sakaja condemned the killing and stated that the country cannot continue to witness deaths that leave children fatherless.

“Upon completing her training as a health worker, we shall ensure she gets a job in the county as she is in her last semester,” Sakaja added.

Ojwang passed away on June 8 while in police custody at Nairobi’s Central Police Station. His death has sparked widespread protests and demands for justice, with activists, Kenyans, and leaders calling for accountability from law enforcement authorities.
