Ida Odinga: Oburu is fine, doctors adviced him to rest

The widow of former Prime Minister Ida Odinga has assured Kenyans that Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Oburu Oginga is doing well and resting on doctors’ advice.

Ida urged mourners to keep the focus on remembering her late husband, Raila Odinga.

Speaking during the first anniversary of Raila’s death at Migwena Cultural Grounds in Bondo, Siaya County, on Thursday, Ida said Oburu had asked her to convey that he was resting and needed prayers for strength.

Oburu is fine, and doctors told him to rest and stay away from a rowdy rally like this,” Ida said.

She urged those attending the memorial to honour its purpose, noting that the gathering had brought together Raila’s friends, relatives and supporters.

“Today we came to remember Raila Odinga,” she said, adding that some people might have attended with different intentions.

Ida said the gathering was an opportunity for those who knew and admired the former Prime Minister to come together and celebrate his life.

Raila died on October 15, 2025, aged 80, while receiving medical attention in India.
