Kalonzo: Raila Odinga will be more powerful in death than when he was alive
Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF) leader Kalonzo Musyoka has said that Raila Odinga’s influence will continue to grow even after his death.
Speaking during his visit to Raila’s grave at Opoda Farm on Thursday, November 6, 2025, Kalonzo said the late opposition leader inspired a new generation of young Kenyans who will carry on his vision for justice and democracy.
Kalonzo described Raila as a leader whose spirit will live on through the youth, particularly those who stood up to demand change.
“Raila Odinga will be more powerful in death than when he was alive because he inspired the young Kenyans; he inspired Gen Z,” Kalonzo said.
“And I remember that young girl in 2024 who said on the television, ‘Baba, baba, you have done enough; now rest, achia sisi hii kazi,’ and they did. They even went to the central business district.”
Champion of democracy, devolution
Kalonzo praised Raila for his lifelong fight for democracy and devolution, saying his legacy would continue to shape Kenya’s future.
“May the champion of democracy, may the champion of devolution, rest in peace,” he said. “The enigma said bury me quickly, and we didn’t have time. So don’t be surprised that the whole nation will keep on coming here.”
He added that Raila’s influence extended beyond politics, describing him as a man whose ideas inspired unity and courage among Kenyans. Kalonzo said Raila’s death would not silence his message but instead strengthen the determination of those who believed in his cause
Our brother Rigathi would want to come, and others will come,” he said, expressing confidence that leaders from across the political divide would continue to honour Raila’s memory.
Kalonzo’s remarks come at a time when Kenyans are still mourning the loss of Raila Odinga, a man widely regarded as one of the country’s most influential political figures. His leadership in the struggle for multi-party democracy and his commitment to devolution left a deep mark on Kenya’s political landscape.
As Kalonzo put it, Raila’s passing marks not an end, but the beginning of a new chapter driven by the same ideals he stood for.
