Kangemi: Man shot dead amid Saba Saba protests

Chaos have rocked Kangemi after one person is suspected to have been shot during the marking of the Saba Saba Day protests.

A man was seen lying on the ground as crowds of people gathered and started charging.

The identity of the man has not yet been revealed.

He was shot on the Waiyaki Way in Kangemi amid ongoing Saba Saba protests.

Protesters surrounded the body of the man as they engaged police officers by throwing stones and chanting.

Running battles between the police and protesters have been witnessed since morning hours.

Police barricaded Waiyaki Way at Kangemi bridge to block vehicles from going to Nairobi CBD.

Kenya is marking Saba Saba Day under heightened security and widespread disruption in several towns.

By 1 PM, Nairobi’s CBD had come to a standstill. Businesses were closed, and pedestrian and motor traffic were minimal.

Police blocked key streets to prevent access. In Mombasa, security forces stopped protesters from proceeding with planned demonstrations.

Running battles between police and protesters are ongoing in Kitengela and Githurai.

Residents have been urged to avoid these areas for their safety.

At Ngara, police fired teargas earlier in the day.

Minutes before 2 PM, a group of boda boda riders was arrested at the Globe Roundabout in Nairobi. Police accused them of attempting to sneak people into the Central Business District (CBD).
