Kenya Power confirms token purchase system downtime

Kenya Power has announced a system outage affecting its prepaid electricity token vending and bill payment platforms across all channels.

In a customer alert issued on Thursday, the utility company said the disruption had rendered its payment systems temporarily unavailable, preventing customers from purchasing electricity tokens or paying their electricity bills.

"Our prepaid vending and bill payment platforms are currently unavailable due to a system interruption affecting token purchases and electricity bill payments across all channels," the company said.

Kenya Power did not disclose the cause of the interruption or indicate how long the outage was expected to last.

The utility, however, assured customers that it was working to restore the affected services and would provide updates once normal operations resumed.

"We will update customers once services are restored. We regret the inconvenience caused," the statement added.

The outage affects all Kenya Power payment channels, meaning customers are currently unable to complete prepaid token purchases or settle electricity bills electronically until the systems are restored.

Kenya Power has advised customers to monitor its official communication platforms for updates on the restoration of services.
