“Kumi bila break!”- Homa Bay residents back Ruto over Sh2.2bn power project

This is part of a package of development pledges the President unveiled as he began his four-day tour of the Nyanza region ahead of the Madaraka Day celebrations on June 1.

Addressing thousands of supporters in Homa Bay County, Ruto announced the launch of the Gor Mahia Ring Road and a Last Mile Electricity project, valued at over Sh2 billion.

“I have come here because you said you wanted electricity in your homes. The government has allocated Sh2.2 billion to connect 16,000 households across Homa Bay County,” President Ruto said in Ndigwa Constituency.

“I have agreed with the ministry that the project will be completed before the end of the year."

The President is touring the region to inspect and commission several development projects, marking one of his most significant visits to Homa Bay County.

During the tour, Ruto received a rousing welcome from residents, who turned out in large numbers to greet him, a sign of warming relations between the region and the President following the ties with ODM leader Raila Odinga.

The development pledges are seen as part of Ruto's broader strategy to win over the region and strengthen his political base in Raila’s traditional stronghold.

Leaders from the region pledged their support for the President during the tour, vowing to back his re-election bid in 2027.

“Kumi bila break!” residents chanted, as President Ruto urged them to set aside political wrangles and focus on development.

“Are you saying it will be ten years without a break?” Ruto asked the crowd, which roared back in agreement.

Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga urged residents to support President Ruto’s 2027 bid, praising his development record in the region.

“We have never seen any president do what President Ruto has done for us. When President Kibaki was in power for 10 years, he only visited once. President Uhuru Kenyatta never toured Homa Bay County; we never saw him,” said Wanga.

But for the years he has been in office, President Ruto is coming to Homa Bay for the night time now.''
