Moses Kuria resigns as senior economic adviser to President Ruto

Moses Kuria has resigned as a senior economic adviser in the office of the President.

In a statement on X, Kuria said he has officially resigned from government, ending a nearly three-year stint in President William Ruto’s administration.

In the statement released Tuesday evening, Kuria confirmed that he had personally met with the President to communicate his decision, which the head of state “graciously accepted.”

“This evening I have met my boss and my friend President William Ruto. The President has graciously accepted my decision to resign from government,” Kuria stated.

Reflecting on his time in public service, Kuria expressed gratitude to the President for the multiple roles he held under the Kenya Kwanza administration.

“I thank President Ruto for having given me an opportunity to serve as Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade and Industry for 11 months, Public Service, Delivery and Performance Management for nine months and Senior Economic Adviser for the last 10 months,” he said.

Kuria’s appointment as Senior Adviser in the Council of Economic Advisers came on August 23, 2024, following his previous role as Cabinet Secretary for Public Service.

Before that, he had held the Trade and Industry docket.

He praised the Kenya Kwanza administration’s achievements under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, saying it was a platform he and President Ruto “designed together” during the 2022 electoral campaign.

“As I move on to pursue personal interests, I am proud of the work the President and I did to implement the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda,” Kuria noted.

“Long live Kenya.”

Kuria’s exit marks the latest in a series of high-profile shifts within President Ruto’s inner circle as the administration approaches its third year in office.

No official replacement has been announced.
