MP Kaguchia detained at Kamukunji police cells after his arrest

Mukurwe-ini MP John Kaguchia was moved and detained at Kamukunji Police Station after his arrest on Monday.

He was initially taken to the DCI headquarters before being transferred to the station, where his lawyers and several allied MPs have gathered.

His legal team said they have not yet been formally informed of the specific reasons for his arrest and have complained that his phone was confiscated and that access to him was initially restricted.

Authorities have not publicly announced the charges he may face.

Kaguchia was arrested after spending the night at Royal Media Services, where he had remained following a television interview amid fears that detectives were waiting to apprehend him over remarks he allegedly made on political matters.

A number of leaders have accused the government of double standards in the application of law.

They claimed some leaders were targeted for political reasons.

Meanwhile, demonstrations have been reported in parts of Mukurwe-ini Constituency, with supporters calling for his release ahead of his expected court appearance.
