OCS Talam, five others presented before Kibera High Court to face murder charges

Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Samson Kiprotich Talaam and five other co-accused persons have been arraigned in court to face murder charges in connection with the death of Albert Omondi Ojwang.

The six were Monday afternoon presented before the Kibera High Court.

This comes after the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) approved the prosecution of the six following comprehensive investigations.

The six suspects, among them three police officers, were presented before the Kibera High Court on Monday, 23rd June 2025, at 2:00 pm.

The ODPP confirmed that the prosecution was initiated under Section 204 of the Penal Code, which stipulates the offense and penalties for murder.

In a press statement issued on Monday, the ODPP revealed that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) had, on June 10,2025, instructed the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to probe the circumstances surrounding Ojwang’s death.

The directive was issued in accordance with Article 157(4) of the Constitution and Section 5(2) of the ODPP Act, Cap. 6B.

After investigations, IPOA submitted its inquiry file to the ODPP on 22nd June 2025. A team of senior prosecutors reviewed the file and, based on the evidence, recommended the prosecution of the six suspects.

Those charged alongside Talaam include police officers, James Mukhwana, and Peter Kimani.

The other accused individuals are John Ngige Gitau, Gin Ammitou Abwao, and Brian Mwaniki Njue.

The ODPP emphasised its commitment to the rule of law, constitutional principles, public interest, and the fair administration of justice.

It assured the public that justice for Albert Omondi Ojwang will be pursued in accordance with legal procedures.
