Rachel Ruto hails private sector’s role in clean energy at 2025 Energy Awards

First Lady Rachel Ruto has commended the role the private sector has been playing in clean energy.

The First Lady said different players in the energy sector were developing clean and green energy solutions.

Speaking during the 21st Energy Management Awards 2025 in Nairobi, Rachel Ruto said Kenya and many developing countries remain vulnerable to climate change.

"Our country is endowed with abundant renewable energy resources, which are critical in supporting the country's climate change reduction targets," she said.

The First Lady said Kenya leads other East African nations in the use of clean cooking solutions, which stand at 34.4 per cent.

Many companies in the country are generating their own sources of clean energy.

She said national electricity projects, like the last mile electricity connectivity programme, were key in ensuring many homesteads have clean energy supply.

"Let us all work together to ensure that energy transition in Kenya is just, leaving no citizen behind, especially in marginalised communities," Mrs Ruto said.

She urged manufacturers, especially big energy consumers, to invest more in energy efficiency and reduction of green gas emissions initiatives.

"let us all join hands to promote adaptation of energy efficiency practices and clean cooking technologies,"she added

CS Wandayi commended the first lady for being a crusader for cleaner energy and transition to clean cooking solutions

Your presence here is a manifestation of the seriousness in which you have streamlined matters of energy efficiency and clean cooking in particular,"said Wandayi.

He said the ministry is working to ensure majority of Kenyans have access to electricity for economic and social development as enshrined in vision 2030

"We are inviting the private sector to scale up investment in power generation, transmission and electricity access as well as clean cooking and energy efficient initiatives,"said CS Wandayi.

"This year theme,Beyond energy efficiency: inclusive solutions for a sustainable future is a distinct and compelling road map,"observed CS Wandayi.

Energy Ps Alex Wachira emphasised Government commitment to green energy and a commitment to having green power by 2030.

"We must conserve our energy so that we can bequeath to a future generation a green greener environment,"said Ps Wachira.

Ps Wachira said Kenya currently boost of 92 percent green energy"State department of energy continue to play a critical role in energy efficiency, conservation, improving access, reduction of green gas emissions and lowering costs of industrial production,"said Ps Wachira.The PS said the Kenya Association of Manufacturer which employs over 350,000 Kenyan remains a key energy sector player.The Kenya Association of Manufacturers (CEO) Paul Alando said the sector will continue supporting the government in meeting it's targets.
