Ruto announces Ksh900M Busia International Stadium project

Addressing residents during a public rally, President Ruto said the new Busia stadium will complement the larger Talanta Hela Stadium project currently underway in Nairobi.

He described both developments as part of the government’s wider plan to promote sports, empower young people and improve social infrastructure across the country.

Ruto asked as the crowd cheered.

The President said that Busia County has a strong sporting culture and that the new facility will give local athletes an opportunity to showcase their talent.

President William Ruto has announced a Ksh900 million plan to construct a new international stadium in Busia County, marking a major boost for sports development and infrastructure in Western Kenya.

Speaking in Funyula, Busia County, on Friday, October 31, 2025, the Head of State also announced that his government has set aside Ksh900 million for the construction of a new international stadium in Busia town.

Mtaona stadium ya kimataifa hapa Busia town,” he said.

The President explained that the Talanta Hela Stadium will serve as a centre for nurturing and supporting young sportsmen and women across all disciplines.

Once completed, the stadium will not only host football matches but also international athletic events, concerts and cultural activities.

He added that the government is investing heavily in youth programmes to create opportunities in sports, the arts and the creative economy.

“We want to build a country where talent is rewarded and where every young person can earn a living through their skills,” he said.

Residents of Busia welcomed the announcement, saying it would open up new economic opportunities for the region and inspire young people to pursue sports as a career.
