State House blitz: Ruto lures Kisii, Nyamira leaders

President William Ruto on Friday, August 15, 2025, welcomed a delegation from Kisii and Nyamira counties to State House, Nairobi, for discussions centred on development and community projects.

In a statement on X, the President underscored the need for what he termed ‘decisive and bold leadership anchored in progressive and innovative plans and policies’ to drive the country forward.

He said his administration had made “difficult but necessary choices” to stabilise the economy, shielding it from turbulence and restoring investor confidence.

“Today, our economy is on a firm growth trajectory, generating adequate resources to upgrade our infrastructure, modernise services, and expand the delivery of essential public goods. With grassroots leaders from Nyamira and Kisii Counties, State House, Nairobi County,” the statement read.

Just last week, Ruto presided over a large empowerment forum at the same venue, attended by over 15,000 Nairobi residents. Observers view these gatherings as part of his administration’s strategy to strengthen political alliances ahead of upcoming policy rollouts and implementation of development programs.

Focus on regional development

The agenda will most likely revolve around identifying and prioritising development projects for the Kisii and Nyamira communities. Infrastructure improvement, education, healthcare, and youth empowerment are among the areas believed to be on the table.

The President’s meeting with leaders from the region also comes at a politically sensitive time.

Kisii and Nyamira counties have recently drawn national attention due to political alignments shifting in the area. Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, a prominent figure from the region, has publicly indicated interest in running for the presidency.

His growing influence has seen several elected leaders, including UDA’s Joash Nyamoko of North Mugirango, openly backing his potential bid.

Against this backdrop, Ruto’s meeting is being interpreted as an effort to address concerns, strengthen ties with local leadership, and reaffirm the government’s commitment to delivering tangible benefits to the people of Kisii and Nyamira.

While details of the discussions have not been fully disclosed, attendees are expected to relay outcomes of the meeting to their constituents. Analysts note that with rising political competition in the region, such direct engagements could play a critical role in shaping alliances ahead of the next election cycle.

For the residents of Kisii and Nyamira, the hope remains that these high-profile meetings will translate into concrete development gains rather than being confined to political symbolism. As Ruto’s administration intensifies its regional outreach, all eyes will be on the projects that follow in the months ahead.
