Teargas, running battles as anti-riot police disperse protesting riders
Police used teargas canisters to disperse a group of ride-hailing App riders who were protesting along Riverside Drive, Nairobi over pricing concerns.
The group had blocked the busy road, demanding audience with the management when police were called.
This inconvenienced many road users for hours.
Dozens of motorcycles were strewn on the roadside as the riders escaped for their safety after anti-riot police arrived to disperse them.The group had claimed that the management had been denying them what they termed as their rights.
“They are holding our money in the wallet, and our efforts to get the money back are futile,” one rider claimed.
There was no immediate comment from the management of the firm.
Tuesday was the third time the riders were camping outside the offices seeking audience with the management.
Police had earlier advised motorists to use alternative routes from the area after the riders lit bonfires blocking the route.
It took the arrival of the anti-riot police to disperse the group at about 1.30 pm.
