UDA announces nomination schedule for upcoming by-elections

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has issued a formal notice outlining the process and fees for party nominations ahead of several by-elections scheduled across the country following recent vacancies in various elective offices.
In a statement dated August 14, 2025, the party’s National Elections Board said the vacancies include three seats in the National Assembly for Barinkas Constituency, Kasipul Constituency, and Magarini Constituency, alongside seats for members of the Senate for Baringo County.
The party further listed numerous vacant County Assembly seats across Samburu, Garissa, Turkana, Kakamega, Kirinyaga, Kisumu, Nyamira, and other counties. These include wards such as Angata Nanyokie and Chari in Samburu, Chewele and Hulugho in Garissa, Katilu in Turkana, and East Ward in Kakamega.
According to the notice, UDA party primaries will be conducted on August 20, 2025, to select candidates who will fly the party flag in the upcoming by-elections. The party emphasised the importance of early preparation for aspirants.
“The registration period will commence on 14th August 2025 and close on 5th September 2025 at 5.00 pm,” the statement read on the party’s X account on Thursday, August 14, 2025.
The nomination fee schedule has been set at Ksh250,000 for male aspirants vying for National Assembly and Senate seats, while women, youth, and persons with disabilities (PWD) will pay Ksh125,000. For County Assembly positions, men will pay Ksh50,000, and women, youth, and PWD will each pay Ksh25,000. The notice clarifies that all nomination fees are non-refundable.
The party urged all interested aspirants to strictly adhere to the timelines and guidelines provided, warning that late submissions will not be entertained.
The announcement comes as the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) prepares for the by-election timetable following the formal declaration of vacancies in the respective seats.
The upcoming primaries will be a test of UDA’s internal democracy and organisational strength, especially in competitive constituencies and wards.
With the by-election clock ticking, UDA’s move signals the start of heightened political activity as aspirants scramble to secure the ruling party’s nomination and position themselves for the electoral contests ahead.
