Babu Owino: I’ll serve one term as Nairobi governor, then seek presidency in 2032
Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino has declared his intention to contest for the presidential seat come 2032.
Babu says he would serve only one term as Nairobi governor if elected in 2027, before contesting for the presidency.
Speaking during a radio interview on Wednesday, Babu said five years would be enough for him to transform the capital and build public support for the presidential run
“I have already told you we have sat as leaders, and I have told them we are all leaders here. Do one term, as I also do one term as governor, then we look for the president. I personally will go for the presidency in 2032,” he said.
The lawmaker expressed confidence that he would win the Nairobi gubernatorial race, saying he does not consider any of the potential contenders a serious threat.
“There is no one who can defeat me for the governor’s seat in Nairobi. There is none for 2027. Someone who will defeat me for the governor’s seat in 2027 has not yet been born. Get used to your governor early,” he said.
Asked about his motivation for seeking the position, Babu pointed to his record as Embakasi East MP. He claimed that no audit report has been published implicating him in any theft of public funds.
He further claimed to have overseen the completion of 88 roads and facilitated the purchase of school buses for schools in his constituency, which he cited as evidence of his leadership record.
Babu also said he has been ranked the best-performing sitting MP on more than two occasions, arguing that his parliamentary record demonstrates his ability to lead Nairobi.
