Former minister Burudi Nabwera dies
Former Cabinet Minister Burudi Nabwera has died, prompting tributes from 2027 presidential aspirant Eliud Owalo and Cooperatives Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya, who hailed his contribution to public service and diplomacy.
Nabwera served as Kenya’s first ambassador to the United States and first permanent representative to the United Nations.
He also served as Minister of State in the Office of the President and was the first Member of Parliament for Lugari Constituency following its creation in 1988.
Owalo said Nabwera’s death was a great loss to the people of Lugari and the country.
He recalled interacting with the former minister in 2008 when he served as a consultant during the development of the strategic plan for Nzoia Sugar Company, where Nabwera was chairman of the board of directors.
I remember him as a leader whose experience and contribution to the institution were invaluable,” Owalo said.
He extended his condolences to Nabwera’s family and loved ones, praying for strength and comfort as they come to terms with the loss.
Oparanya also mourned Nabwera, describing him as “a distinguished leader and diplomat who served our nation with dedication and honour”.
He said Nabwera’s contribution to Kenya’s diplomatic relations, governance and national development would remain etched in the country’s history.
Oparanya extended his condolences to the family, friends, the people of Lugari and the entire nation.
"Mzee Nabwera leaves behind an enduring legacy of leadership and public service. His contribution to Kenya’s diplomatic relations, governance and national development will remain etched in our history," he said.
"I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, the people of Lugari and the entire nation during this difficult time, and may the soul of Mzee Burudi Nabwera rest in eternal peace."
