Gakuya says Gachagua’s return will keep govt on its toes
Embakasi North Member of Parliament (MP) James Gakuya has predicted that the return of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua will rattle the broad-based government.
Speaking on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, Gakuya also said it is evident that the peace President William Ruto is currently enjoying is largely because of Gachagua’s absence.
Gachagua is not an easy man
According to Gakuya, Gachagua’s return will completely alter the political atmosphere in Kenya.
“When Gachagua is around, he knows how to organise, plan, to propel the movement to be aggressive, and I am sure the people of Kenya are missing.
“He is a force of a man and utter words that maybe Kalonzo Musyoka cannot be able to utter,” he said.
Gakuya added that Gachagua’s unique political style makes him stand out from other leaders.
“He is coming back, and I know Kenyans will continue to enjoy the kind of anti-govt pressure that was there before Gachagua flew to the U.S once he returns.
“I have also noticed that the head of state is enjoying comfort. So when Gachagua was away, the head of state enjoyed the kind of break. That tells you that Gachagua is not an easy man.”
Looming arrest fears
The legislator also addressed claims that the government is planning to arrest Gachagua immediately upon his arrival.
“There is an assumption, word from the Minister of Interior, that they intend to arrest Gachagua once he sets foot on Kenya’s soil.
“We are telling them, if they are able, let them do,” Gakuya declared.
He warned that such a move could escalate tensions across the country and spark a strong reaction from Gachagua’s supporters.
Gachagua, who has been on an extended visit to the US, has remained a central figure in Kenya’s political discourse despite his absence.
His outspoken criticism of the government, coupled with strong grassroots backing in Mt. Kenya and beyond, has made him a key player in the opposition space.
Gakuya’s remarks further underline the uncertainty surrounding Gachagua’s return and the possible ripple effects it could have on the country’s political stability.
Many now await his comeback to see whether it will indeed reignite the anti-government wave as predicted.
