IG Kanja visits police station in Nyeri after fire incident
Inspector-General of the National Police Service (NPS), Douglas Kanja, visited the Kiamariga Police Station in Nyeri County after a recent fire incident that raged through the station, causing extensive damage.
In a statement by the National Police Service on Saturday, November 15, 2025, the service confirmed that the police boss visited the station on Friday, November 14, 2025, in a bid to assess the aftermath of the incident.
On Friday, 14 November 2025, the Inspector-General of the National Police Service (NPS), Douglas Kanja, visited Kiamariga Police Station in Nyeri County to assess the aftermath of a fire,” NPS said.
According to NPS, the fire incident led to extensive damage to the station’s property, including the armoury and records office.
Meanwhile, the police lauded the Nyeri County Government Fire Brigade, who were supported by police officers and local residents, hence successfully contained the fire.
“The fire caused extensive damage to the station’s property, including the armoury and records office. The Nyeri County Government Fire Brigade, aided by police officers and local residents, successfully contained the blaze,” NPS said.
On the other hand, the police boss also expressed his solidarity with the officers affected by the incident

Likewise, he assured the police officers that the damaged buildings would be repaired promptly.
“He expressed his solidarity with the personnel affected by the incident and assured them that the damaged buildings would be repaired promptly,” NPS added.
On the other hand, Kanja lauded the relationship between the police officers and Nyeri residents, which led to the prompt move to salvage the station.
He commended the swift and voluntary collaboration between the public and the officers in battling the fire, noting it as a clear indication of a strong community-police relationship,” NPS noted.
Similarly, the police boss encouraged officers to embrace community policing as an effective strategy for crime prevention.
“He used the occasion to encourage officers to embrace community policing as an effective strategy for crime prevention. He further thanked the officers for their continued discipline and dedication, highlighting that, despite the setback, they were discharging their duties professionally and diligently,” NPS added.
Kanja further encouraged the officers to maintain fairness and firmness as they adhere to the rule of law.
