‘Lero ni Lero’: ODM marks 20th anniversary

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is marking its 20th anniversary with a series of celebrations that began on Friday.

The events continue today, Saturday, and are scheduled to conclude on Sunday.

The celebrations are taking place at the historic Mama Ngina Waterfront.

In a post on its official social media pages, the party said, “Lero ni Lero #HonouringTheLegacy ODM at 20,” signalling the start of activities commemorating two decades since its formation.

The anniversary events are designed to reflect on ODM’s political journey, tracing its growth, key milestones, and the role it has played in shaping Kenya’s governance and reform agenda.

Party leaders, members, and supporters are taking part in activities that pay tribute to ODM’s roots and its long-standing presence in national politics.

ODM says the commemoration offers a moment to honour the struggles, contributions, and sacrifices made by its members over the years.

The milestone comes as ODM continues to position itself as a significant force in the country’s political landscape, participating in national dialogue, advocating for reforms, and maintaining active grassroots networks across Kenya.

The anniversary programme began on Friday, November 14, with an ODM Disability League breakfast from 7 am to 9 am, followed by two parallel summits for the party’s women’s and youth wings from 10 am to 1 pm.

A youth concert closed the day’s activities from 6 pm to midnight.

The events also served as a tribute to party founder Raila Odinga and his decades-long contribution to Kenya’s democratic journey.

Senior ODM leaders in attendance included party chairperson Gladys Wanga, Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna, Mining Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho, and Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir. EALA MP Winnie Odinga was also present.

On Saturday, November 15, the focus shifts to Mama Ngina Waterfront for a celebration themed around Raila Odinga’s vision, achievements, and broad political legacy.

Scheduled from 7:30 am to 2 pm, the event will include a recommitment by members to safeguard the democratic gains achieved through two decades of ODM’s political engagement.

Later in the evening, the party will host an ODM Founders’ Dinner at Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort.

An inter-religious thanksgiving service has also been organised in honour of Raila’s life, leadership, and the broader journey of the party.

President William Ruto is expected to join the celebrations later.
