Karua condemns police move to summon Ndiangui Kinyagia

The People's Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua has criticised the move by the National Police Service (NPS) to summon Ndiangui Kinyagia, noting that the statement is a matter of subjudice.

“This is not even funny, the matter is subjudice," Karua noted.

In a statement on X, Karua reminded the NPS that they should direct any facts in their possession to the court by way of affidavit as directed.

“We shall conclude which way after full information,” Karua said.

“You remain suspect until the court pronounces itself on the matter, “she added.

The statement released by NPS pertained to the resurfacing of Ndiangui Kinyagia from his hideout and his subsequent appearance in court on Thursday, July 3, 2025.

“Ndiangui Kinyagia had been reported missing, and information circulating on social as well as mainstream media accused the Police Service of allegedly abducting him,” NPS said.

NPS stated that Kinyagia remains a person of interest to the police and is urged to present himself to the DCI Headquarters to record a statement.

The Service reiterated its earlier response that Ndiangui Kinyagia was not in police custody.

“We take great exception to the emerging trend whereby individuals feign abduction and provide false information to the police, intending to generate a misleading narrative that exploits public outrage and sensational headlines, thereby distorting the truth rather than focusing on justice,” NPS said.

“These criminal acts undermine the integrity of our law enforcement efforts, damage the reputation of the National Police Service, and cause anxiety to the public,”.

The National Police Service further reminded the public that stage-managed abductions and providing false information to the police are criminal offences punishable by law.
