National Police Service issues new dates for constable recruitment after court ruling

The National Police Service (NPS) has announced a new date for the recruitment of police constables nationwide.

The exercise will commence on Monday, November 17, 2025, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm at designated recruitment centres in all counties.

In a post on their X account, the National Police Service said the recruitment is open to Kenyan citizens aged between 18 and 28 years with a minimum KCSE grade of D+, including at least a D+ in either English or Kiswahili.

Candidates must be physically and medically fit, have no criminal record or pending criminal charges, and meet the minimum height requirement of 5 ft 8 in for males and 5ft 3in for females.

Female candidates must not be pregnant at the time of recruitment or during the training period.

Graduates of the National Youth Service (NYS) who meet the minimum requirements are encouraged to apply. “All applicants MUST be at their respective recruitment centres by 8:00 am,” NPS added.

The recruitment will be conducted at hundreds of centres covering all 47 counties.

Each sub-county has been assigned a specific venue to manage the large number of applicants efficiently.

The NPS urged applicants to arrive by 8:00 am and to comply with all guidelines to ensure a smooth recruitment process.

The service warned that the recruitment is free and open to all qualified candidates. Any attempt to influence the process through bribery or submission of false information will be treated as a criminal offence.

“Engaging in bribery or submitting false information to influence the recruitment process constitutes a criminal offence.” Police warned.

Court order

The recruitment drive comes after the lifting of court orders that had previously blocked the exercise. The Nairobi Employment and Labour Relations Court had declared the NPSC’s advertised recruitment of 10,000 officers unconstitutional.

Lady Justice Hellen Wasilwa ruled on Thursday, October 30, 2025, that the NPSC is not a national security organ under Article 239(1) of the Constitution and cannot conduct police recruitment.

She stated, “A declaration is hereby issued that the recruitment by national security organs under Article 232(d) of the Constitution can only be done by the national security organ itself, not any other entity outside the security organ.”

Following the ruling, the NPS can now proceed with selecting qualified candidates for training as police constables.
