No chaos: Governors laud residents for peace amid demos

Several governors have commended their county residents for maintaining peace during the June 25, 2025, protest anniversary

Those who issued statements include the governors of Homa Bay, Kericho, Kakamega, and Kisumu.

In a press statement, Kericho Governor Erick Mutai appreciated residents for exercising restraint and patriotism by choosing not to take part in the demonstrations.

“Your commitment to peace and stability, even in the face of national tensions, is a true mark of responsible citizenship and belief in the rule of law,” Mutai said.

“To the few who may have participated, I commend you for doing so peacefully and respectfully,” he added.

Governor Mutai also encouraged residents to prioritise dialogue and consensus-building when addressing concerns, and reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive engagement and protecting the interests of all residents.

In Kisumu, Governor Anyang' Nyong’o thanked residents for maintaining peace during the activities commemorating the first anniversary of the Gen-Z protests.

In a statement, Nyong’o noted that Kisumu City and other towns across the county remained relatively calm throughout the day.

“The people of Kisumu will always be vigilant in promoting and protecting human rights,” he said, adding that they will continue to express their views constructively.

Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa similarly praised the county’s residents for conducting themselves peacefully.

“Your discipline and patriotism are a powerful reminder that the voices of our youth can be heard and respected without resorting to violence,” Barasa stated.

He affirmed his commitment to upholding constitutional freedoms, including the right to peaceful protest and freedom of expression.

He also described Kakamega as “the green jewel,” noting that it remains a symbol of peace in the region.

Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga also lauded her constituents for their peaceful conduct.

“Your choice to remember our fallen heroes through peaceful engagement is commendable and demonstrates your commitment to unity and stability,” Wanga said.

She urged residents to continue positioning Homa Bay as a beacon of peace, hope, and progress.

The Wednesday demonstrations marked the first anniversary of the June 25, 2024, protests, during which dozens of people lost their lives.
