Suspected thieves break into Eldoret church, steal electronic equipment

Police are investigating a break-in at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Cheptiret, Uasin Gishu county, where suspected thieves reportedly stole electronic equipment.

According to authorities, the intruders gained access by breaking the church’s padlocks early Wednesday morning.

Stolen items included a mixer, an amplifier, microphones, rechargeable batteries, a bulb, and two padlocks.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and that they suspect the perpetrators may have been familiar with the premises.

In a separate incident in Lurambi, Kakamega County, ten houses belonging to Masinde Muliro University students were destroyed by fire on Wednesday afternoon.

Police reported that no injuries were sustained.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

In Kondele, Kisumu County, a cobbler’s shop was damaged in a fire that reportedly started from a nearby heap of burning rubbish.

The blaze spread quickly, destroying property in the shop.

Police are investigating the incident as possible arson. No injuries were reported.

In Mayenje, Busia County, a house was destroyed by fire.

Authorities confirmed that no one was injured and said the cause of the fire is yet to be determined.

The homeowner estimated losses at over Sh1 million.

In Huruma, Uasin Gishu, a fire at a residential property killed one pig and injured two others. A fire engine contained the spread, and police are investigating the incident.

Meanwhile, in Angata Barrikoi, Transmara, Narok County, tension has risen following clashes linked to cattle rustling.

On Tuesday, a gunfight broke out involving members of two neighbouring communities.

Police reported that no injuries were recorded, but more than 30 acres of sugarcane plantations were burned.

Authorities said this is the latest in a series of such incidents in the area, which have resulted in at least six fatalities in recent weeks.

Reinforcements have been deployed to the region, and police continue to investigate.
